Four South African Cameras are now ONLINE!
South Africa
On 31 August we achieved a major milestone with first light achieved at Laingsburg High School in the Western Cape of South Africa. Cameras ZA0008 and ZA0009 were finally added to the pipeline from 1 September 2024.
This follows first light at Touwsrivier Primary School (cameras ZA0006 and ZA0007), which achieved its first meteor detections on 4 June 2024, and was added to the pipeline on 7 August 2024. You can have a look at their data here.
With the cameras now capturing nightly images of the night sky and with their fields of view overlapped, both schools are able to determine orbits and radiants of the meteors observed from both locations, and in so doing contribute to our understanding of our Earth’s meteor showers.
Below you can observe coverage in the height of 100 km of these cameras.
